The #20 Continues To Stay In the Top Five after Round 8
(N. Kingsville, OH) Round eight would find us in Blountville, TN at Muddy Creek Raceway. The weather was just as excepted - unbearably hot and muggy with plenty of bright sunshine. Timed qualifying on Sunday, would put Josh in the sixth place gate pick going into moto one. Getting to the first turn in moto one would not be an easy task for Josh as he went three wide with fellow Honda rider, Harold Goodman and Can-Am rider, Jeremy Lawson. It would be Goodman aboard his Honda to grab the holeshot leaving the #20 to take difficult lines, succumbing to rider passes in the better of the two lines on the track. This put Josh in mid pack with heavy traffic throughout the moto where he would take ninth place at the wave of the checkered flag.
Team manager, Mark Baldwin and Josh would elect to make significant changes to the quad set-up for moto two. This time when the gate dropped it was a moto one repeat with Harold Goodman and Josh Upperman. Only this time, Josh would come out of the first turn, in second place and cleverly make the pass to take over the top position. Josh would ride steady, smart and consistent knowing he could make up for moto one. Suzuki rider Dustin Wimmer was soon in the shadows and tucked in close on a right turn to edge out Upperman to take over the first place position. While the rest of the field battled, Upperman held onto second place for eight laps until challenged by Suzuki’s #55, Doug Gust who would make the pass on lap twelve with two laps remaining. This gave Josh a 9-3 with an overall of 5th place for the weekend. Due to the heat and the level of competition, in this class several riders were completely exhausted at the end of this moto.
