Tip Of The Day: Chain Cleaning

Did you know that non O-ring chains should be cleaned and oiled regularly? And if you pressure wash your quad, the chain needs to be oiled immediately after to keep it from rusting.

To thoroughly clean and lube your quad’s chain, it’s best to pull the chain off the quad and wash it using a scrub brush in solvent. After the chain has been cleaned, apply chain oil or WD-40 to lube up that chain. Put the chain back on your quad, and between cleanings keep the chain running smoothly by using chain lube.

I ran across this post and would like to recommend a product called Jig-A-Loo. It's a dry silicone-based lubricant that, unlike any other lubricant, contains no oil, grease, wax, petroleum distillates or detergent, so it doesn't stain or stink. It stops squeaks, un-sticks just about anything, protects against rust, and is an exceptional water repellent. A lot of people tend to use WD-40 for lubrication purposes, when in fact its more of a degreaser.

Jig-A-Loo can be found in Home Depot, Target, Advance Auto Parts and places like Ace Hardware or True Value.
