With Weinen taking the win in the first moto, Wimmer needed to finish strong, and most importantly, finish ahead of Weinen to further extend his series points lead.

Off the start, Byrd once again grabbed the holeshot, followed closely by Monster Energy/Kawasaki rider Josh Creamer and Keith Little. A few seconds behind them was the rest of the pack (apparently there was a bit of bumping going on that set the rest of the pack back a bit from the top three momentarily). Weinen and Wimmer found themselves around sixth and eighth respectively as they got through the first few turns.

Early on in the race, while Wimmer was making a pass on Keith Little, the two unintentionally clipped tires right before the tunnel, which sent Keith Little flying off his bike. It tumbled out of the tunnel and most of the spectators weren’t able to see how it happened… I on the other hand saw the whole thing since they crashed literally within inches of me. And I do literally mean inches! It was a pretty scary crash and I’m glad Keith is doing okay. Team Motoworks/Can-Am rider Jeremie Warnia also had a nasty crash in the backfield and after the race he was nursing what looked like a pretty bad shoulder/collarbone injury. Here’s hoping the likable Frenchman recovers soon!

Back to racing action - Byrd was still up front, but by now Weinen was all over his back bumper. At the start of the race Byrd’s engine was blowing a ton of smoke, but by mid-moto it seemed totally fine. But in the end it didn’t matter. Wimmer was on fire and he started making his way past everyone and had his sights set on Byrd and Weinen up front.

On the back section of the track, Wimmer was able to drive off a jump a little faster than Weinen and was able to get past him. Once Wimmer got past Byrd and Weinen, he started to pull a gap on everyone and pretty much took the moto win uncontested. With this win, Wimmer extends his points lead over Byrd, 184 to 178.
