Four Stroke Wars — Glamis, CA — January 10, 2009

Story and Photos by: Enrico Pavia

On Friday night I was out with friends and decided to call Ricky from RIS Designs and ask him about his plans for the drags which for some reason I thought where taking place the following weekend. It was probably 8pm at the time that I called, Ricky instantly corrected me and told me that the races where taking place the following day. I was bummed because Saturday night we had scheduled to race a Polaris RZR S in Anaheim Stadium during the Monster Truck Jam which was in front of a 40,000 plus sold out crowd.  I didn’t know what to do I really wanted to get out to the sand drags but I already pre-booked the UTVcross race and couldn’t back out. I worked out a suicide mission with a good friend of mine, lets just call him “Monkey Boy” It’s easier and that is what all his duning buddies call him.

Back to our mission, Monkey Boy and I planned out a way to make both events we both knew by doing so we would be hurting by the end of the night. I didn’t care I love watching the drags so no sleep was worth it. We decided to run down to the office at like 4 A.M. we then loaded up the Teryx and all the camera gear. It was now 5:30 A.M. by the time we started racing down to Glamis. We managed to only make one food and fuel stop on the drive out which put us in Glamis at around 9:00 A.M.

I hooked up with Tony which is Ricky’s younger brother and shot one of his show bikes for a online Feature which we linked to here if you want to check it out

I was hoping the Four Stroke Wars would start at 10 A.M. but they where running behind letting the racers have extra time to prep and dial in their ATV’s a bit more. My problem was I had until noon before I would have to hightail out of there in order to make it to the Monster Truck Jam in time. Things where not looking good It was now 12:30 P.M. and the races still have not started.

I was bummed for not getting to catch any of the real racing action but at the same time was satisfied to at least catch a number of the bikes during practice, while everyone was feeling out the freshly groomed drag strip at Olds.

Here is a little from the promoter of the 4 Stroke Wars,

“The races just keep getting better and better. We had a huge group of spectators at Glamis, reminded me of the last FSW in 2005. Awesome! Alot of new faces, can’t wait till Dumont.

A big thanks to Roy Ulrich and family for all their help with set up, tear down, and officiating. Roy has become my left hand and I can’t thank him enough for what he sacrifices for FSA. Thanks to Tim Jones for all his photography.

Tom Phillips, Shawn, and crew were a huge help with set up, officiating, and photography. What a great group of guys and your work was very much appreciated.

We have so many people that pitch in one way or another, its just amazing to us. Thanks to all that help us put on these events and make FSA what it is.

Congratulations to all the winners!!!!!!!”
