We caught up with the Newest member of the Factory Monster Energy Kawasaki Team, Chad Wienen, and got the scoop on his plans for the upcoming season in this week’s, Friday 5!
QUAD: How has pre-season testing been going so far?
Wienen: We have been doing a little bit of testing—I’ve been down in Splendora Texas, and it’s been going really good. We are mainly testing engines and I finally got some new components on the chassis. Everything is working out really good. The bike is working excellent. We have some new tires and stuff like that this year. I’m just really excited to get a total package together and looking at this week we are going to have a good base point on what we are going to be racing this year.
QUAD: How are you adapting to your new ride?
Wienen: The new ride here at Kawi is really exciting. The people here are great—going from Suzuki to Kawi has actually been a step for me. They know what it takes to go out and win and they are ready to go out and win and that’s what I’m here to do. Josh has been really helping me out with the transition. Us working together is going to be a win-win situation and the people that are going to be racing against us…well, I think are going to have their hands full.
QUAD: How does the shoulder feel? Are you going to be 100% for the season?
Wienen: Yes I am. I’ve been doing a lot of weight training. My shoulder feels strong, if not stronger than it’s ever been. The main thing this year is to keep myself 100% and everything will fall into place from there.
QUAD: What does it mean to be on the Kawasaki team this year?
Wienen: Well it really means a lot to me. I’m just hoping that I found a home here at Kawasaki. I’d like to be able to ride for them for the next 10-15 years–that’s the ultimate goal for me. I believe that their ATV Motocross division is really serious about the sport and that’s what I’m all about. I want to progress the sport and get our name out there and hopefully be as big as the bikes some day, and the people here are more then ready to do something like that. That’s what drives me to go out and work harder and push forward heading into the ‘09 season. I’d like to deliver them their first championship.
QUAD: Here are a couple off questions for you. Pizza or Pasta?
Wienen: Definitely pasta. I’m not a big pizza person I guess you would say. I mean it’s good to get it every once in a while but I’m more into the pasta stuff.
QUAD: Alright last one and I’ll let you get back to it. Football or Baseball?
Wienen: Definitely Football. I have got a long love for football. I played football in high school and had chances to go on and play college ball but decided to go racing instead. So as of right now if I had the chance to I would go off to college just to play football.
