KTM ATV Top Podium In Holland

Team KTM UK rider, Paul Holmes, delivered yet another outstanding result on the KTM 505 SX at the weekend, Holmes taking his second overall win in as many meetings to extend his series lead in the GOLDSPEED EMX European Quad Championship.

Mario Block Paul Holmes

Hosted by the VAMAC club on the outskirts of Varsseveld in the Gelderland region of the Netherlands, the deep sand circuit delivered a challenging and spectacular layout, winding it’s way from the fast infield sections through the spectacular wooded area to provide a lap in excess of 1.8 kilometres, the five thousand spectators making the trip to the venue forty kilometres West of Arnhem treated to a fantastic display of racing in each of the three motos.

Having set fastest time in his group during timed qualification, Holmes gated fourth in each moto, and despite a circuit that yielded few passing opportunities was able to make his way up the leaderboard to record a 2-1-2 scorecard, his lead in the series increased to a healthy thirty-four point margin over fellow KTM rider, Stefan Schreiber.

A delighted Holmes commented after the race ” today has been fantastic and it’s awesome to come away with the overall win and extending my lead at the top.  I got good starts in all three motos, but it was really tough to pass as the ruts are really deep in some of the corners, so I still had a lot of work to do.  I got badly held up by back-markers in the opening race which allowed Stefan to pull away, but in the second moto I took the lead after three laps and was able to open up a ten second gap which I held to the chequered flag.  The KTM 505 SX was awesome, it doesn’t seem to matter what the conditions are, it just handles them with ease.”

For team-mate, James Hellewell, the day was not without it’s problems, a spill in the opening lap of race one leaving James with a broken starter button and unable to fire up the bike, but undeterred Hellewell put together a fantastic second moto 14th and closing moto 18th, having fought through from 24th,to finish 19th on the day.

Podium Stefan Schreiber

A dream start to the days racing for KTM Alskom Quad Racing’s Stefan Schreiber saw him take a fantastic gate to flag victory with ease, but getting caught up with stranded riders blocking his path in the next two motos left Schreiber with a lot of work to do, Schreiber finishing 5th overall after a heroic final moto, having made up an amazing fourteen positions from an opening lap 21st.  Team-mates Mario Block and Robin Markus Butt also had to deal with similar issues during their motos, but using the excellent handling of their KTM 505 SX machines they battled through to 10th and 13th overall respectively.

“I’m really disappointed at my overall result as I know from my pace in the first race and the way the bike was performing that I could have done better” commented Schreiber after the meeting. “The ruts in some of the corners were really deep and the only way to get through them was to keep the power on and follow the tram lines.  Unfortunately for me in the last two motos I got stuck behind someone who got stranded on the exit and I had nowhere to go.  I was able to work my way up in the last race and salvaged some points, and on the plus side I am still holding on to 2nd in the series, so I’ll now refocus and set my sights on the next meeting at Denmark in July.”

There were also some outstanding performances from privateer KTM teams whose fantastic results on the Ready to Race KTM 505 SX saw a total of nine bikes finish inside the top twenty on the day, KTM holding the top two positions in the Championship and the highest number of bikes of any manufacturer inside the top ten in the standings, the series now heads to Denmark for round three on the 25th and 26th of July.
