Wimmer Out For 6 - 8 Weeks With Injury
Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki/Yoshimura factory rider Dustin Wimmer was injured during a test session at the track “A Place To Ride” in Monroe, Georgia, this past week. Yosh Team Manager Kory Ellis had this to say — “It’s a shame that Dustin’s season had to be interrupted by an injury, and the title looks like a long shot at this point. But, the important thing is that the injury is nothing too serious, and that Dustin will be back soon!”
We spoke with Wimmer shortly after talking to Ellis. Here’s what he had to say about the accident and how it happened.
“I was out practicing and was starting my first moto when I went over a tabletop and my axle broke. I got ejected from the bike and landed on my right shoulder. I got up pretty quickly and I started moving my arms and legs to make sure nothing was hurt and when I looked at my right arm, it moved weird and I immediately knew something was wrong. When I went to grab my shoulder through my jersey, I could feel that my shoulder was about five inches from where it should be. I could feel the hole in my socket where my shoulder should have been. I could tell it was dislocated pretty bad.
I tried to get off the track—actually Pat Brown tried to help me get off the track and I passed out three times from the pain. Finally the third time I got up my shoulder popped back into place by itself and there was instant relief. The next day I went to see a specialist and they told me I have to go back in two weeks for a checkup. But it looks like I might be in a sling and off the bike anywhere between six to eight weeks.
I can’t even begin to tell you how frustrating this situation is. After having such a strong start to the season, this is just beyond frustrating. I won the first three out of four races, I was leading the points, and I was absolutely riding at the top of my game. Having this injury sideline me is just unreal.
I’d like to thank my fans for all their support. Obviously I won’t be at the next round, but I’m hoping to make it to the following race if everything goes according to plans. I’ll be back as soon as I can. And once again I’d like to thank all my sponsors and the team for all their support so far this year. The Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki/Yoshimura team is a great team to race for and I can’t wait to get back to action.”
We here at Quad Magazine wish Dustin a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on track soon! In an ironic twist of fate, we just received our copies of the next issue featuring Dustin on the cover, which should be on newsstands across the country any day now…

The race at Birch Creek was one of the best MX races I’ve seen in a long time. It’s such a bummer that Dustin got hurt - I was looking forward to seeing more battles like that throughout the rest of the season. Get well soon Champ!

Being healthy is tough in our sport, or in any sport. I got a Question for Quad magazine. How do these professional riders get insurance. Aflac as a secondary insurance will cover accidents as long as your not a paid professional. DO factory sponsorships include an insurance claus? They put their lives on the line to put the factory product in first, or try to put in first.

Dustin - tough break buddy. I’m going to miss having you up on the podium, seems like you are always there - won’t be the same without you. We’ll see you in PA I’m sure. Take care of that shoulder and get well soon. E.
