Red Bud MX - Buchanan, MI Amateur Report
Story and Photos by Chuck DeBault

Blue skies, a slight breeze, and mild temperatures graced the Moose Racing/ITP AMA ATV Motocross National at Red Bud this weekend. With the exception of a small passing storm, the weather and the racing proved to be excellent!
Once again the Red Bud facility proved to be a fan favorite and racers and fans came from thousands of miles to watch and race. The track, as expected, was huge with ample jumps and sweeping turns. The crew did a good job of keeping things as loose as possible and the little bit of rain actually seemed to help. Dust was not an issue at any point on or off the track.
The Pro-Am Unlimited and Production classes were two of the most popular classes to watch throughout the weekend with Cody Gibson, Joel Hetrick and Bobby Ross trying to back up the previous rounds Kawasaki podium sweep. The Unlimited race was gated and ready to race just as the skies decided to let loose a little rain. That changed the dynamics quickly, but it didn’t seem to slow the pace at all. On Sunday, the first moto in the Production race was intense. With a bad start, Joel Hetrick was spun out before he even got to turn one! This placed privateer Suzuki mounted rider, Chase Snapp in the number one position with Billy Cottage (Honda), Cody Gibson (Kawasaki), Bobby Ross (Kawasaki) and Factory Polaris rider Casey Martin following in that order. Cody Gibson managed to claw his was into the second place position while Casey Martin took the number three spot. The final results after the final moto put the #22 of Chase Snapp into his first number one finish in Pro Am Production and it also put his name out there as one of only three riders to take a first-place finish in that class all season long!
In the Women’s Pro Am race Heather Byrd saw her sweep of the class continue and prior to the start of the race there was no sign of Michelle Natalie on the line. When asked about her not making it to the race, Michelle noted she wasn’t feeling well and felt it best to sit out the event. Jamie Jones and Adrianne Cooper finished out the gate and also finished in that order behind Heather Byrd.
The Production A class saw another first-place finish by #424 Jeremy Tulenchik from Pequote Lake, MN. While #728 of Jeff Rastrelli took the number two spot followed by Randy Shilling of Warsaw, IN.
There was plenty of great racing and lots of exciting moments this weekend. Be sure to check out the photo gallery for pics from the event.
