Tip of the Day: Dune Sprocket

If big sand dunes are what get you and your quad revved up, we have a tip to keep you pulling all the way up and over. The general rule is that you want to crest the big dune as fourth gear stops pulling (if you’ve done significant modifications to your dune machine, the gear may change).

Next time you go to a big sand hill, try starting about 20 feet closer than your usual start position and see if you can still grab through the gears like you normally do. If you can’t grab fourth (or the gear your ATV usually reaches), your quad may benefit from one more tooth on its rear sprocket. Adding a tooth will give your quad quicker acceleration and put your machine in the meat of the powerband as you crest the hill. Conversely, if your machine revs out too fast, then you may want to go down a tooth on the rear sprocket.

Try it out—better gearing can unleash more horsepower from your machine!
