We are now five rounds into the WORCS series as it rolls into summer break. The Pro point battle is very close with only three rounds of action remaining, promising a great finish in Mesquite. Let’s take a look at our leaders from the first half of the 2009 season.
WORCS ATV series: (By point leaders)
Beau Baron: #3
Beau Baron, MCR’s (Michael Cafro Racing), is the new hot item in the WORCS ATV scene. Beau who has steadily finished in the top 5 all season, finds himself in the points lead after back-to-back wins at Honeylake & Riverdale Raceway. Baron, and ex-motocrosser and still MX tester rides the #3 MCR Honda and rides it well to say the least. A fan favorite, this one is sure to watch as we head to Washington in August.
Josh Frederick: #1
“The Animal”, plain and simple. Motoworks/Can-AM’s Josh Frederick who has become the dominant ATV Pro suffered a major leg/upper body injury at an ITP round last month. Frederick, who won the first two rounds, took a 2nd at Lake Havasu, and finished 2nd at Honeylake had to sit out last round, due to the ITP injuries he sustained at Glen Helen. For a full report on that injury, please see Josh’s Open Letter here…. Frederick is one of the most determined individuals I have ever met. And while he may be out now, this man will be back 100% and ready to go for the second half. The question is can he make up the difference? I guarantee one thing, he, Baron, Nelson and Warnia will sure to put on a show for rounds 6-8.

Jeremie Warnia: #62
“Frenchie”- Motoworks newest edition has made an impact on the west coast ATV racing scene this year to say the least. Multiple wins in ITP & his first WORCS win came in Havasu in March. Jeremie rides intense and at a very strong and fast pace. He currently finds himself, third in points and could make a run at this championship before it’s over.

Doug Eichner: #5
“The Man” 5x WORCS National ATV Champion is still running strong at 43 years old. Doug has a heart of a champion, which is proven, and he continues to fine tune and tweak his new Factory Polaris 450 into a winning bike. Doug podiumed at Racetown and has consistently rode top 5 for the first half of the season. I’m not sure how many more years Doug has, but when he’s out there, you can still see the fire in his eyes and the determination that has made him a household name in the ATV industry today!

Dustin Nelson: #94
Factory Yamaha’s/Red Bull pilot former MX Pro enters his 3rd year with WORCS. Dustin, who runs his signature #94, was second in points last year and has rode to a 2nd & 3rd this year. But a 22nd and a 16th at rounds 3 & 5 put a damper on his Championship run. Anything is possible as we head into the second half and one thing about Nelson is, he never gives up and you’ll see that come early August.
