Team Gorilla Powered by Can-Am
Race Review – Chasing the Championship
As the second stop of the ITP CMR 2009 Mud Tour Presented by Can-Am comes to a grinding halt, Team Gorilla Powered by Can-Am finds themselves in a familiar position…at the top of the leader board!
Choudrant, Louisiana was the home of Tour Stop #2 at Mudd Madness ATV Park. Racers from Texas to the East Coast gathered last weekend to, once again, compete for points and cash in the CMR SwampCross Competition. The team arrived together on Friday afternoon to a park that is only 20 miles from the Gorilla Axle Headquarters…somewhat of a homecoming celebration, so early in the season. Team Gorilla Powered by Can-Am rolled into Mud Madness sitting in 2nd and 3rd Place in the Open Class and looking to increase our hold on defending our championship. After an intense team meeting, bikes are ready…let’s go racing!
Danny Regan began the day on his Outlander 650 and ran well until the semi-finals when he was put out of the race by another Can-Am who went on to win the class.
Casey Beach and David Smith were both fierce competitors as they raced. However, as luck would have it, Casey was defeated by David…and David had engine trouble in late rounds which put him out of the Semi-Pro Class Competition.
Up next, Clint Adams and Greg McMullen competed in the Pro Class. After a trip to the quarter-finals, Clint was sent packing and Greg met the same fate in the semi-final round.
Caroline Smoak beat up on the Women’s Class as she rode her Outlander 800 to a 1st Place podium finish, making her way into the Top 3 in the points standings for the year.
The Super-Pro Class featured Chase McCauley who was defeated by a fellow Can-Am rider along the way and left empty handed…which took us to the big show…The Super-Pro Modified Class.
The opening heat saw Danny Regan (Defending Champion) against Chase McCauley. Chase put Danny on the trailer and went on to race Mark Wise who had made his way through round one. Mark Wise defeated Chase, however, due to mechanical issues, Mark could not continue in the competition.
DaWayne Crowder raced into the finals and finished in 4th spot…just off the podium.
Hoyt McCormick – The most decorated racer of the 2007 series took his second podium finish of the year in the Super-Pro Modified Class. His 2nd Place finish puts him in 1st Place in the points race, giving
Team Gorilla Powered by Can-Am bragging rights until the next stop. Tour Stop #3 is only 9 days away…so, we have wounds to heal and fuel to pump. The next sixty days will be monstrous with stops in Georgia, Indiana, and Texas. Thank you to all of our sponsors, supporters, and fans. We’ll see you at the racetrack!
