Broken Breeze

In 2004 I purchased two brand new Yamaha Breeze’s for my children. I purchased these quads because of the bullet proof history the Breeze model (now the Grizzly 125) had. The serial numbers on these two quads are sequential so they were built at the same time. One of these quads has worked flawlessly since the day they were purchased the other one hasn’t worked properly ever.

The quad doesn’t idle for long unless the choke is pulled out or the engine is thoroughly warmed up (read hot here). When the choke is pulled even a little out the engine rev’s so high that the transmission cannot be put in gear. After riding for a bit if the quad was stopped on any sort of incline it stalled whether the incline is forwards, backwards or sideways it made no difference. When the quad is moving it worked fine the problem only occurred when the quad was stopped or when the brakes were applied very hard.

It has been back to the dealership it was purchased from many times. The carburetor has been cleaned, adjusted, rejetted and rebuilt with no success. The cables all work smoothly, the cables do not bind, the fuel is fresh, the float bowl has been drained, the fuel has been replaced from a different service station, the spark plug has been changed several times all with no success.

Out of frustration I cleaned and rebuilt the carburetor myself and it ran a tiny bit better but the problem is still not solved. After the engine was warmed up I could stand the quad on its rear end and it would idle with no problem. I could rock the quad side to side very vigorously lifting the tires off the ground and it would not stall. But once again when the traveling quad stopped it would stall.

I then took the quad to another dealership and they started from scratch but this time they said they found that something was bent and they replaced it and the quad ran better for awhile. Once the quad is warmed up (read hot again) it seamed to run better but not perfectly.

Now when the temperature drops the quad starts its problems all over again. This is extremely frustrating when compared to the other quad we purchased at the same time. The other quad has never experienced any of these problem and runs flawlessly regardless of the incline or the temperature outside. It was minus 15 Celsius today and three of my four quads started and idled with no problem. This one appeared to start ok but every time I tried to reduce the high idle using the choke it would stall. It was sort of an all or nothing situation (rev high or not at all).

I have spent over $600 on this quad trying to address this problem because the dealers said that there was only a 90 day warranty. I have written to Yamaha several times with no success; they just keep telling me to return to one of their dealers for servicing.

I have four quads for the family so that we can all ride together but it is to the point that my 14 year old son has given up riding because of the problems with his quad. This makes it very difficult for us to go quad riding as a family.
