The quad has low hours but over heated. 2005 YFZ 450 has intake exhaust cams by hot cams, Factory four complete exhaust, rev box , power now fuel inlet and an air intake system. The motor currently sits in a box.

What would it cost me to take it to a shop to get the motor rebuilt and does a rebuilt motor necessarily mean less reliable?

Price depends on how much damadge was done when it overheated.Mechanics are pretty expensive.I'd say around $1200.00 parts and labor top end.If you need to split the cases, then closer to $2000.00 parts and labor.

I also believe that a motor is as reliable as you treat it.High compression motors dont last as long and are expensive to run. They are fun to have though, especially when the competition is breathing your dust.

I like to up the bore and compression just a little in my YFZ.A good port and polish with a carb bore is also a good way to make it run sweet.

being an 05 you can put a wr dirt bike crank and piston in it and it will make it a true 450cc at 12.5:1 compression witch will still allow you to run pump gas expect to pay $550-650 in labor and close to the same in parts
